A solid 4-star dim sum place! They offer many items that you won't see often at other dim sum places, like the chicken wine soup and Preserved Chinese Pickle with Pork Stomach. My cousin recommended this place to me, and it turned out that all of our family members liked this place! My favorite item turned out to be the rice roll. Surprisingly for me! They just made the rice roll perfect in terms of texture--tender and soft at the same time! Another fav of mine is the Dry noodle with Shallot & Green Onion Tossed Noodle and the egg tart; the egg tart is crispy, and they made the custard perfect. I also recommend the Preserved Chinese Pickle with Pork Stomach in Broth for a warm soup. The location is next to the bay, so you get the bay view as well. The service was unexpectedly above average. One thing that made me upset was that we waited for the steamed beef ball for so long, and we ended up having to cancel the order.. Definitely will try it next time!
Twenty-four of us sat on two tables for dim sum lunch. Watch where you indicate 1 or 2 orders on the menu. Since we cant read Chinese, The item we ordered was next to the English name. So we were given 2 wrong items. We received the food item below what we wanted to order. The staff was nice enough to remove the unwanted item and did not charge us. An order of The pork ribs was big - Like 2 orders. The shrimp dumplings were pretty big. It was a full house and we didn't wait long for our table. Parking is really difficult so make sure you allow time. We ended up parking across the street. The staff didn't even rush us out after 2 hours. So we had plenty of time to talk at the end of our meal.
Came here for a 16-course dinner banquet with friends. Our hostess ordered cucumbers, black algae or fungus, roast squab, suckling pig, chicken, Wagyu beef with mushrooms and peppers, chicken ginger soup (great!), sweet Kurobuta pork considered the Wagyu of pork, Chinese broccoli, chicken with asparagus, princess chicken, shrimp balls, lobster with spicy vermicelli noodles, red bean and tapioca soup, red bean in light fried balls, cookies, and Portuguese custard tarts for dessert. Everything was delicious! Service was attentive where they changed your plates during the meal. We sat in one of the private rooms upstairs. Main dining hall was downstairs. There's a deck that overlooks the peninsula. Free parking on the lot. See manager Danny about dinner suggestions and a reservation. Place was busy on New Year's Day!
I recently dined at HL Peninsula Pearl in Burlingame, and the menu is a nice mix of traditional dishes. I highly recommend the dumplings--they were steamed well and flavorful. The seafood options are also a standout; the freshness was evident in every bite. Service was good. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and they were very pleasant. We had the sesame balls filled with red bean and mango pudding; it was the right balance of sweetness. If you're looking for a dining spot that combines delicious food and a view of the Bay where you can see planes landing, HL Peninsula Pearl is a good option.
To me, the biggest reason why you would come here to eat is the "view" of the outside when you are eating. If you are able to snag a seat next to the arched windows in the restaurant, you can look out into the nice water and even see planes taking off. I think this is kind of unique to this place. Other than that, the Dim Sum experience is pretty decent with nice portion sizes and good taste. My colleagues and I ordered a bunch of different menu and everyone was satisfied after we finished. They also have a huge parking lot outside the restaurant so there shouldn't be an issue finding parking. However, we went at lunch during a weekday and the parking lot was pretty full. I can't imagine what the weekend would look like. I also found the spaces to be pretty tight so driving a big SUV might prove to be a challenge.
Dinner with some of the fam Friday night. * Seared Pork Chop with Fresh Garlic for $28 this was really good and I would get it again. * Saute Slices Mutton W/Cumin Powder for $28 * Sauteed Seasonal Greens for $26 Not pictured: * Soy Sauce Chicken for $19 * Crispy Roasted Squab for $22
Have always came here for proper dimsum. Authentic, reasonably priced, and flavorful. There's usually always a line so make sure to either make appointment or come in earlier. Service is pretty good, people kept on checking on us and we never ran out of tea :) ambiance was a little loud, but the table arrangement was pretty good and following the conduct. The fried chow fun was the star of the show, the second star was the crispy prawn wrapped with rice roll. Congee was good but a tad bland, the egg yolk custard bun was amaaaazing and melted (watch out it's very hot inside). The short ribs is also good!
Met up with an old friend for my birthday dim sum lunch. HL Peninsula Pearl took over the space of a large Mexican restaurant right on the water with views of the San Francisco Bay. HL has a large dim sum menu and you order off a check list. The interior is dominated with a huge video wall that has a continuous advertising loop. The restaurant was full but we got seated right away. Along with the traditional Siu Mai, Ha Gao, congee, pork ribs with black bean sauce rice rolls, and chicken feet etc.. Some of the stand outs were the deep fried pumpkin with salty duck egg yolk, and bbq pork turnover. The portions are larger than normal. Service was slow, cold and indifferent. But it would not feel normal if the Cantonese service was any other way at a dim sum house. Minus star. Gratuity is added automatically, perhaps that's why. Parking is always tough with the large dim sum houses in the Peninsula. $150 with tip.
